【摘要】:Theabilitytoquicklyandaccuratelyevaluateandpredictlong-termweatheringperformanceoffactory-appliedcoatingsisofparamountimportanceinmakingsoundbusinessandtechnicaldecisions.Itisimportanttoincludecontrolspecimensofknownfieldperformancetodeterminetheefficacyofthispracticeforspecificsubstrate(s)andcoatingsystem(s).Thesecontrolspecimensmayincludematerialsknowntopossessacceptableandunacceptablefieldperformanceforthedefect(s)underconsideration.Resultsderivedfromthispracticearebestusedtocomparetherelativeperformanceofmaterialstestedatthesametimeinthesamedevice.Theinclusionofcontrolspecimensandtheirresultingdatawillassistindealingwithtestvariabilitycausedbyseasonalorannualvariationsinimportantclimaticfactors.Extensiveresearchwasperformedduringthedevelopmentofthisstandardpractice.Thisresearchshowedthatthispracticeisnotusefulfordeterminationofquantitativeaccelerationfactors.However,thistestisveryusefulasacomparativetest.Aminimumoftworeplicatesforbothcontrolspecimensandtestspecimensisrecommendedtoallowstatisticalevaluationofresults.RefertoPracticeG169foradditionalguidanceonestablishingthenumberofreplicates.1.1Thispracticecoverstechniquestoaccelerateweatheringeffectsoffactory-coatedembossedhardboardusingCycle1ofPracticeG90(concentratednaturalsunlightwithperiodicsurfacewaterspray)plusasoak-freezethawcycle(seeSection5ofthispractice).1.2Testingbyuseofthemethodsdescribedinthispracticemaybeemployedinthequalitativeassessmentofweatheringeffects.Therelativedurabilityofcoatedhardboardsmaybebestdeterminedbycomparisonoftheirtestresultswiththoseofcontrolspecimensderivedfromrealtimeexposuretestexperience.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
