【摘要】:Machiningtestsaremadetodeterminetheworkingqualitiesandcharacteristicsofdifferentspeciesofwoodandofdifferentwood-basepanelmaterialsunderavarietyofmachineoperationssuchasareencounteredincommercialmanufacturingpractice.Thetestsprovideasystematicbasisforcomparingthebehaviorofdifferentproductswithrespecttowoodworkingmachineoperationsandofevaluatingtheirpotentialsuitabilityforcertainuseswherethesepropertiesareofprimeimportance.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverproceduresforplaning,routing/shaping,turning,mortising,boring,andsanding,allofwhicharecommonwood-workingoperationsusedinthemanufactureofwoodproducts.Thesetestsapply,indifferentdegrees,totwogeneralclassesofmaterials:1.1.1Woodintheformoflumber,and1.1.2Wood-basepanelmaterialssuchasplywoodandwood-basefiberandparticlepanels.1.2Becauseoftheimportanceofplaning,someofthevariablesthataffecttheresultsofthisoperationareexploredwithaviewtodeterminingoptimumconditions.Inmostoftheothertests,however,itisnecessarytolimittheworktoonesetoffairlytypicalcommercialconditionsinwhichallthedifferentwoodsaretreatedalike.1.3Severalfactorsenterintoanycompleteappraisalofthemachiningpropertiesofagivenwoodorwood-basepanel.Qualityoffinishedsurfaceisrecommendedasthebasisforevaluationofmachiningproperties.Rateofdullingofcuttingtoolsandpowerconsumedincuttingarealsoimportantconsiderationsbutarebeyondthescopeofthesetestmethods.1.4Althoughthemethodspresentedincludetheresultsofprogressivedevelopmentsintheevaluationofmachiningproperties,furtherimprovementsmaybeanticipated.Forexample,bypresentprocedures,qualityofthefinishedsurfaceisevaluatedbyvisualinspection,butasnewmechanicalorphysicaltechniquesbecomeavailablethatwillaffordimprovedprecisionofevaluation,theyshouldbeemployed.1.5Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Themetricequivalentsofinch-poundunitsmaybeapproximate.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.

【摘要】:AsexplainedinTestMethodD4595,narrowgeotextilespecimensdemonstratethetendencytocontract(neckdown)inthegageareawhenunderstress.Thewiderwidthspecimenwillminimizethisphenomenoninseamsduringstrengthtesting.Theresultsachievedinthistestmethodcanmoreaccuratelycorrelatetotheseamstrengthvaluesanticipatedinthefield.Thistestmethodcanbeusedtomeasuretheseamstrengthofgeotextiles,andmayalsobeusedforacceptancetestingofcommercialshipmentsofgeotextiles.Whenstrengthisnotnecessarilyadesignconsiderationofseaminteraction,analternatemethodfordeterminingtheseamstrength,suchasTestMethodD1683,maybeuseddependingonthespecificationrequirements.Becausecurrentinformationaboutlaboratoryprecisionisincomplete,comparativetests,asdescribedin5.2.1,maybeadvisable.5.2.1Incaseofadisputearisingfromdifferencesinreportedtestresultswhenusingthistestmethodforacceptancetestingofcommercialshipments,thepurchaserandthesuppliershouldperformcomparativeteststodetermineifthereisastatisticalbiasbetweentheirlaboratories.Competentstatisticalassistanceisrecommendedfortheinvestigationofbias.Asaminimum,thetwopartiesshouldtakeagroupoftestspecimensfromthesamelotofgeotextile,thatutilizealikemethodofseamassemblytoachieveseaminteraction.Thespecimensshouldthenberandomlyassignedinequalnumbertoeachlaboratoryfortesting.Ifabiasisfound,eitheritscausemustbedeterminedandcorrected,orthepurchaserandthesuppliermustagreetointerpretfuturetestresultsinlightoftheknownbias.Althoughothermethodsofdeterminingseamstrengthareavailable,thistestmethod,thatmeasureswidespecimens,willmoreaccuratelycorrelatetotheanticipatedperformanceinthefield.Thistestmethodcanbeusedtohelpdetermineseamdesignengineeringforthegeotextilesbeingevaluated.1.1Thistestmethodcoverstheseamstrengthofgeotextiles.Theprimarydistinctionofthistestmethodforevaluatingseamstrengthisthewidthofthespecimen.ThisisincontrasttothemorenarrowspecimenwidthusedinthetensilegrabstrengthtestdiscussedinTestMethodD1683.1.2Thistestmethodwillprovidedatatoindicatetheseamstrengthwhichcanbeachievedforeachparticulargeotextileandseamassemblyconstruction.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Theinch-poundunitsgiveninparenthesesareprovidedforinformationonly.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
